Tabard Theatre Supports Community United

04-Apr-2015

The Tabard Theatre Company (on San Pedro Square) is putting on a show in April 2015, "Violet" and has designated our organization, Community United San José, as the nonprofit to support. The proceeds from all their concessions will be donated to CUSJ.

"Violet" is an intriguing story set in the year 1964. A young woman's quest becomes a journey of discovery, love, courage, and what it means to find acceptance.

Written by Tony-nominated composer/arranger Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Mille, Shrek the Musical) and award-winning playwright Brian Crawley (A Little Princess, The Musical), "Violet" features a powerful score that uses southern popular, folk, and gospel influences with unpredictable sophistication and flair.

The original off-Broadway production was nominated for an incredible 7 Drama Desk Awards, including one for "Best New Musical", and the 2014 Broadway production received 4 Tony nominations, including "Best Musical".

"Characters are rich, complex, and capable of surprise...
the story packs an uncommon emotional intensity... the music is uncommonly beautiful."
